In third year, we all of course had to do Wing Duty Cadet which included sleeping overnight in the Duty Room and keeping all the Pass cards from the various Squadron Orderly Rooms for the First Year Cadets who had not returned to their barracks yet. I was fortunate enough to have a fairly quiet and uneventful evening, with only one Pass card unclaimed. That meant I would have to give the guy some Drill Squads, but also it meant I could turn in early, so around midnight I was just about ready to get in to the bed when I heard this somewhat timid knock on the door. It was a First Year cadet standing at attention, all 5 feet of him. He mustered up some courage and hesitantly said “Hi, my name is Rob Morrow and I am here to pick up my Pass card.” I couldn’t help but let out a laugh, because I happened to play on the RMC hockey team with Rob Morrow who is at least 6 feet 3 inches or so, and so I said “You’re not Rob Morrow! I know Rob Morrow. Tell him to come see me first thing in the morning”. So of course Rob shows up at the appropriate time and stands in the hallway with this sheepish grin on his face, obviously very relieved to see it was me. I shook my head and gave him back his Pass card and said “Wow, it’s you’re lucky day – I am not even going to ask!” He grabbed the card, did a hasty about turn and then got the heck out there!
